When I was six, I started to make movies.
Back then my dad was working in television and film as an editor and a composer, and I quickly adapted to pressing as many buttons and hitting record on as many devices as humanly possible. Working on films at an early age and witnessing the power of storytelling… I was hooked on movies.
Shortly after, I was able to work on exciting projects in television and acquire a few mentors along the way who were generous enough to give me key insights into the process of filmmaking. I started with refining my skills as an editor and helped create content that aired on PBS, ESPN, CNN, FOX, and ABC. Since then, I’ve focused my energy towards working behind the camera, studying shadow and light, and directing films starting with the award-winning short documentary Aerodrome.
To help meet the demand for scalable films and longer-form projects, in 2015 I helped start a production company with Chris Rahm and Kashka Glowacka called Northguild. The work we’ve done together has further shaped my process of filmmaking and helped me grow as a DP in so many ways, but more importantly, starting Northguild has contributed much-needed infrastructure to help manage and facilitate the many aspects of scalable film production from Pre to Post, opening up the possibility to work with a mass group of talented gaffers, production assistants, writers, editors, composers, producers, and directors.
Whether it be long-form, short-form, documentary or narrative - I’ve spent the past 25 years learning how light and shadows connect with people. I draw inspiration from seeking new ways and perspectives to tell a story.
